Summary
Summary by CodeRabbit
New Features
Fireworks models and available pricing are fetched dynamically and displayed in settings.
Refresh the model list using your API key, with loading and error feedback. Changing models updates model-specific settings.
Your configured model remains selected if it is missing from the fetched list. Unknown models use fallback information, and pricing is unavailable when none is provided.
The default Fireworks model is now Kimi K3.
Fireworks model metadata and pricing now come from runtime discovery instead of a static catalog. Results are cached by API key and returned through router-model requests. Fireworks settings and model selection use fetched metadata when available and fallback metadata when it is not.
Fireworks is registered as a dynamic provider. Its static catalog is replaced by a default model ID and fallback metadata.
Model and pricing discovery src/api/providers/fetchers/fireworks.ts, src/api/providers/fetchers/__tests__/fireworks.spec.ts, src/api/providers/fetchers/__tests__/modelCache.spec.ts
The fetcher retrieves model metadata and serverless pricing, applies fallback limits, and filters unsupported entries. The model cache scopes Fireworks results by API key.
Provider handler and cached model use src/api/providers/fireworks.ts, src/api/providers/__tests__/fireworks.spec.ts
The provider handler reads cached model metadata and uses fallback metadata when a model is absent. It skips fetching when the selected model is cached and supports cancellation.
Router-model requests and response ordering src/core/webview/webviewMessageHandler.ts, src/core/webview/__tests__/*
Router-model requests fetch Fireworks models when a key is available and flush the cache for an explicit key. Superseded requests do not publish results, and failures can return cached models.
Settings and model selection webview-ui/src/components/settings/ApiOptions.tsx, webview-ui/src/components/settings/providers/Fireworks.tsx, webview-ui/src/components/settings/providers/__tests__/Fireworks.spec.tsx, webview-ui/src/components/settings/utils/providerModelConfig.ts, webview-ui/src/components/ui/hooks/useSelectedModel.ts, webview-ui/src/components/ui/hooks/__tests__/useSelectedModel.spec.ts, webview-ui/src/components/settings/providers/__tests__/*, webview-ui/src/utils/__tests__/validate.spec.ts
The settings component displays fetched models and supports refresh status. Model selection uses fetched metadata when available and fallback metadata otherwise. Supporting tests and fixtures include Fireworks router-model entries.

Explanation
The title "[feat] Fetch model IDs and their metadata on Fireworks" matches the main change. The PR removes the static Fireworks model catalog and adds runtime fetching of Fireworks models and serverless pricing, with cache handling and UI updates. The title does not mention the removal of the static list, but it names the primary feature clearly.
Full details: Description check
Explanation
The description follows the repository template and links the issue (Closes: #2240). It states the purpose: fetch models dynamically and remove the static list. The checklist is filled in. Gaps: the "Description" section does not explain the implementation details, design choices, or trade-offs that the template asks for (for example, the per-API-key cache, the pricing fetch and its best-effort fallback, the request superseding logic, and the 128,000-token context fallback). The "Test Procedure" section does not list the tests or the steps a reviewer can repeat. It says the code was used for three weeks and still needs retesting after rebasing, which gives reviewers no concrete verification steps. The checklist marks testing as complete but does not name the tests added.
Resolution
Consider adding to the Description section: the key implementation details (API-key-scoped model cache, best-effort Fireworks serverless pricing fetch with pagination cap, fallback context window and maxTokens rules, and request-ID handling for stale router-model responses). Consider adding to the Test Procedure section: the new or updated spec files, and the manual steps to verify model listing and pricing on Fireworks after the rebase.
Full details: Linked Issues check
Explanation
[#2240] requires dynamic retrieval of available Fireworks models. getFireworksModels fetches the Fireworks model endpoint and model pricing. It builds model metadata from the API response and removes the static Fireworks catalog. FireworksHandler uses the key-scoped cache and fetches uncached model metadata. The webview requests catalogs for configured API keys and displays the returned models in ModelPicker. Tests cover fetching, pricing, caching, request handling, model selection, and the settings UI.
Full details: Out of Scope Changes check
Explanation
The changed code supports [#2240]. Fetching, pricing parsing, cache isolation, request cancellation and ordering, failure retention, model selection, refresh controls, and related tests implement the dynamic Fireworks catalog and its lifecycle. Static catalog removal and fixture updates support that change. No unrelated change is demonstrated.
Full details: Security Boundaries
Explanation
No changed path meets the security failure conditions. Fireworks requests use fixed HTTPS endpoints; account names are restricted to accounts/[\w-]+, and pagination tokens are URL-encoded. API keys are sent only as Authorization headers and are not included in logged error objects. The model catalog uses a null-prototype object, and Fireworks model display passes through filterModels and organization allowlist validation. The cache is keyed by API key, which prevents cross-key catalog reuse.
Full details: Persistence Integrity
Explanation
No changed persistence path violates the check. Fireworks model retrieval uses the existing model-cache path: flushModels awaits refreshModels, and cache writes await safeWriteJson, which uses locking, temporary-file replacement, and rollback. Profile changes still reach the awaited upsertProviderProfile path. The new default fireworksDefaultModelId is propagated through the provider definition, backend handler, and settings UI.
Full details: Regression Evidence
Explanation
The PR adds durable visible Fireworks settings UI in webview-ui/src/components/settings/providers/Fireworks.tsx: a model picker, refresh button, and loading, success, and error states (lines 315-355). webview-ui/AGENTS.md requires a *.visual.tsx Playwright snapshot for user-visible layout and empty/error states. The changed-file inventory contains no visual test, story, or baseline, and the gallery has no Fireworks story. The added Fireworks.spec.tsx provides JSDOM behavior tests but no screen-level snapshot.
Resolution
Add a Playwright component visual test for the Fireworks settings surface, register a Fireworks story in webview-ui/playwright/gallery/stories.tsx, and commit baselines covering the populated model-picker state plus an empty or error state.
Full details: Lifecycle Resource Cleanup
Explanation
The changed Fireworks fetch path can leave work running after failure. getFireworksModels starts the models request and getFireworksPricing concurrently with Promise.all (src/api/providers/fetchers/fireworks.ts:209-217, 257-262). If the models request fails while pricing is still pending, Promise.all rejects but does not cancel the pricing request. Fireworks is invoked through getModels' shared flight (src/api/providers/fireworks.ts:61-85), and modelCache removes the flight and its timeout listener on rejection without aborting its controller (src/api/providers/fetchers/modelCache.ts:307-324). The pricing request can therefore continue after the provider fetch has failed.
Resolution
Use a per-fetch AbortController combined with the caller signal. Pass the combined signal to both Fireworks request branches. If either branch fails, abort the internal controller, await the sibling branch so it settles, and rethrow the original failure. Preserve caller cancellation and remove combined-signal listeners on both success and failure.

Use an own-property lookup for cached model metadata.
Zod 4.6.7 hydrates modelRecordSchema into a normal object. Therefore, cached?.[id] can resolve inherited properties such as constructor or toString as ModelInfo. A configured custom ID with one of these values can pass a function or prototype object to request construction instead of fireworksUnknownModelInfo.
This behavior predates the PR, but the disk-cache path keeps it reachable. Use an own-property check at this lookup.
Note: this behaviour predates this PR (already present at merge base 3f51e9df774b); the change keeps it reachable.

Add a Fireworks fetch-rejection case to the explicit-key refresh suite.
The shared DeepSeek rejection test covers common handling, but not the Fireworks-specific refresh branch. Add assertions for the singleRouterModelFetchResponse error and final routerModels completion when the Fireworks fetch rejects.

Unverified finding
We couldn't verify this from the code. It is shown for review, not as a verified issue.
The parser ignores the advertised supports_tools capability while the shared OpenAI-compatible handler constructs tool-call requests; a chat model without tool support may be offered for agent tasks.
Fireworks may reject the chat completion or the model cannot perform the selected task's tool workflow.
This can occur when: The models endpoint lists a model with supports_chat: true and supports_tools: false, and an agent request supplies tools.

Use the fetched output budget in the Fireworks handler fixture.

Use the fetched output budget in the Fireworks handler fixture.
pricedGlm sets the flat maxTokens: 16384. The cached-model test expects max_tokens: 16384. Because the fixture matches the flat cap, a regression that replaces the fetched budget with that cap still passes this test. Set the fixture and the expectation to the fetched value, 209_716, so the test fails when the larger budget is lost.

Cover the cold fetch to cache lookup in the model cache tests.
114-123: Minor · Maintainability & Code Quality · Quick win
Cover the cold fetch to cache lookup in the model cache tests.
The cold-cache test in fireworks.spec.ts mocks ../fetchers/modelCache, so getModels never writes the real cache there. Its only assertion checks the getModels arguments. The getModel() checks in this file read a cache mock that each test sets up itself. No test runs a cold fetch and then reads the result through getModelsFromCache. A regression that leaves the first request on fireworksUnknownModelInfo would still pass.
Add the missing assertion to the Fireworks tests in src/api/providers/fetchers/__tests__/modelCache.spec.ts, near lines 293-324. After getModels resolves for a keyed options object, call getModelsFromCache with the same options. Assert that the returned catalog contains the fetched model. Keep the cache unmocked in that test so the lookup reads the entry that getModels stored. The write happens at modelCache.ts:249 and :461, and the read happens at modelCache.ts:565.
Keep the existing ensureModelFetched call-argument assertion in the handler spec. Do not add a getModelsFromCache mock that returns the fetched catalog there. That mock supplies the population step and repeats the warm-lookup assertion at lines 91-102.

Add a cold-fetch cache lookup assertion in the model cache tests: after
getModels resolves for keyed options, call getModelsFromCache with the same

Add an abort case for the models response body.
406-418: Trivial · Maintainability & Code Quality · Low value
Add an abort case for the models response body.
The abort test rejects only a pending fetch. No test resolves the models response, so no test aborts while response.json() runs on the success path. A change that wraps the body parse in a catch that swallows the abort and still returns a catalog would pass the suite.
Add a case that resolves fetch with an OK response whose json() rejects once the signal aborts. Abort after json() starts, then assert that getFireworksModels rejects with the abort reason. This covers a unit-level contract. Production cache waiters reject on abort independently, so the benefit is bounded.

When a Fireworks model has no inputPrice or outputPrice, the handler still computes a numeric total. calculateApiCostOpenAI maps each missing rate to 0, and Task keeps that 0 when it persists the request cost. The fetcher comments say this cost should show as unknown.
Dropping totalCost from the usage chunk does not fix this. Task falls back to costResult.totalCost, which uses the same unpriced model info and also returns 0.
A correction has to change the usage path, the Task fallback, and the unknown-cost representation together. ChatRow treats cost === undefined on api_req_started as an in-progress request, so leaving cost undefined on a completed request would display it as still running. The existing test at src/api/providers/__tests__/fireworks.spec.ts:225-236 asserts totalCost: 0 for unpriced models and would need to change with any fix.

Update Fireworks model-cost handling starting at getModel so models missing
either inputPrice or outputPrice remain an unknown cost through usage
calculation and Task persistence, rather than becoming $0. Preserve
completed-request display behavior by distinguishing unknown cost from an
in-progress request, and update the existing Fireworks test expectation
accordingly.

Assert the seeded router-model values for both cache keys.
The test at webview-ui/src/components/settings/providers/__tests__/Fireworks.spec.tsx:208-249 checks only that setQueryData receives expect.any(Function) for the Fireworks key and the aggregate key. It never checks the stored values. A change that returns current unchanged, or returns undefined, would still pass. The Fireworks-key updater at webview-ui/src/components/settings/providers/Fireworks.tsx:114-123 is not invoked anywhere in this spec file.
Invoke each captured updater, found in setQueryData.mock.calls by its query key, and assert its result:
Fireworks key, cold cache (undefined): expect { [providerIdentifiers.fireworks]: refreshedModels }. The updater returns the incoming payload, so the expectation is not refreshedModels alone.
Fireworks key, warm cache: pass { [providerIdentifiers.fireworks]: { "accounts/fireworks/models/old": <model info> } }. Expect { [providerIdentifiers.fireworks]: refreshedModels }. The incoming provider entry replaces the old one, so the stale model ID is removed.
Aggregate key, warm cache: pass a provider-keyed map with a second provider entry and the Fireworks entry, for example { [otherProvider]: <other models>, [providerIdentifiers.fireworks]: <old models> }. Expect the other provider entry to be unchanged and [providerIdentifiers.fireworks] to equal refreshedModels.
Keep the cache values provider-keyed in every fixture. A model ID at the top level of RouterModels does not match this cache shape.

Missing Fireworks prices are recorded as a request cost of 0, not as unknown.

Missing Fireworks prices are recorded as a request cost of 0, not as unknown.
The comment at src/api/providers/fetchers/fireworks.ts:105-107 says that a missing price means the cost "shows as unknown." The code does not do this. A missing rate reaches the cost helper, which converts it to 0. The stored request cost and telemetry then contain 0.
The path has three steps:
When the pricing fetch fails, getFireworksPricing returns an empty Map (fetchers/fireworks.ts:223). parseFireworksModel then builds the model without inputPrice or outputPrice. A model whose SKU data has only one direction also loses both rates, because parseSkuPricing returns undefined at line 108.
processUsageMetrics calls calculateApiCostOpenAI whenever modelInfo is set (src/api/providers/base-openai-compatible-provider.ts:195-213). calculateApiCostInternal replaces each missing rate with 0 and returns a number (src/shared/cost.ts:51-54).
Task persists totalCost ?? costResult.totalCost (src/core/task/Task.ts:4085-4093). A 0 is not nullish, so the stored cost is 0. The telemetry call near Task.ts:4535-4555 uses the same fallback.
The UI hides a zero total in TaskHeader.tsx:285 and TaskItemFooter.tsx:56. The displayed result therefore looks like an unknown cost. The persisted record does not.
Removing totalCost from the usage chunk does not fix this. Task would still fall back to the zero-coerced costResult.totalCost. A correct change must keep the cost undefined in both places. calculateApiCostOpenAI is also used by other providers, so any change to it needs to be checked against those callers. No safe patch is established here, so none is proposed.
Impact and scope
Only the stored request cost and telemetry are affected. No billing, budget, or availability consequence was found in the inspected code. The aggregation of stored request costs was not inspected.

Update the Fireworks pricing flow around parseFireworksModel so missing input or
output prices keep the cost undefined rather than becoming zero; ensure this
undefined result reaches both persisted request cost and telemetry. Avoid
changing shared calculateApiCostOpenAI behavior for other providers unless their
callers preserve their existing behavior.

Replace the hardcoded Fireworks model picker with the account-scoped list
returned by https://api.fireworks.ai/inference/v1/models.
- Add getFireworksModels fetcher: known models keep curated static specs
(incl. pricing); unknown models are built from the API's context_length
and supports_image_input fields without pricing; non-chat models
(embeddings/rerankers) are skipped.
- Register fireworks as a dynamic provider; key-scoped model cache.
- Fetch in requestRouterModels when a key is available; refresh flushes
the cache using the key from the settings form.
- FireworksHandler resolves info from static specs, then cached API
metadata, then sane defaults, always honoring the configured id.
- Fireworks settings: ModelPicker + Refresh Models button, falling back
to the static list until a catalog is fetched.
- useSelectedModel prefers static info, then router info.
- Send a request identifier with each Fireworks router-model request and
echo it on the response. The settings page accepts a response only when
the identifier and the provider match its current request.
- Drop a superseded identified request in the handler, so an older
response cannot publish its catalog over a newer one.
…talog
Fireworks model metadata and pricing now come entirely from the API:
- Model list and capabilities: GET /inference/v1/models.
- Pricing: GET /v1/accounts/{account_id}/serverlessModels, with the
account id resolved via GET /v1/accounts. The RPC has no API reference
page, but its pricing field is documented in the Model schema on the
List/Get Model docs (serverlessModes[].skuInfos: "only populated by
ListServerlessModels"). The default mode prices the model id; fast modes
price their usageIdentifier router id; priority tier is skipped.
- Pricing is best-effort: on any failure the model list still loads and
cost is left unknown. Models without a price are kept.
- Embedding/reranker models are filtered by kind, since they report
supports_chat: true.
Removes the hardcoded fireworksModels catalog and FireworksModelId type.
The settings picker shows only API-fetched models (no static fallback),
and the handler/useSelectedModel read model info from the fetched list.

Cache a complete Fireworks price list, or block billable requests when prices are missing.
A failed pricing request returns an empty map. getModels() caches the unpriced catalog, and each request is then recorded at $0. The allowedMaxCost check never triggers while those rates stay absent.

Replace the any parameter types in the three new test doubles.
The VSCodeTextField, Button, and VSCodeButtonLink doubles type their props as any. The repository requires that new code add no any. Type each double with a local structural interface. The double is a runtime stand-in. It does not change how TypeScript checks Fireworks.tsx, because the real toolkit and UI declarations still apply to that JSX.

Cover the aggregate cache merge with an existing catalog.
The test checks the aggregate setQueryData updater only with undefined. That covers the cold case, where no aggregate entry exists. The merge branch, current ? { ...current, [providerIdentifiers.fireworks]: catalog } : undefined, runs when the aggregate entry is already cached. No test covers that case. If this branch returned current unchanged, stale Fireworks models would stay in the aggregate cache, and the suite would still pass.
The path rules for webview tests require coverage of both the cold-start and warm cases for fallback behavior. Add a warm-case assertion to this test.

Catalogs fetched with the saved key can be saved under an edited Fireworks key.
While a Fireworks key edit is unsaved, the Fireworks-scoped router-models query can refetch. That request has no request ID and does not carry the typed key. The extension reads the saved key from its current state, so the returned catalog contains models for the saved key.
The catalog effect in webview-ui/src/components/settings/providers/Fireworks.tsx (lines 121-133) stores any changed, nonempty catalog under the typed key while the key is unchanged. If the typed key's request then returns an empty catalog, the stored catalog is not cleared. The picker (lines 288-295) falls back to retainedModels for the typed key, so it keeps showing the saved key's models until a nonempty response for the typed key arrives or the key changes.
The catalog update has no key provenance, so the effect cannot tell which key produced it. Any fix must keep the catalog that loads for the saved key during initial load.
